| As talented and versatile a player as there is, Tate can do it all. Has excellent size and strength and breakaway speed. Looks effortless when he plays and is always in control of his body. Isn't as physical as he needs to be, but at times he shows flashes. Is a viable threat with the ball and could play a number of offensive positions at the next level. In the first round of the 2009 MLB Draft, the San Diego Padres selected outfielder Donavan Tate with the third overall pick. Recommended by Padres scout Ash Lawson, Tate hit .525 with 10 home runs for Cartersville (GA) High School this season. The right-handed hitting centerfielder slugged 1.000 with a .788 on-base percentage, drawing 29 walks with just eight strikeouts. Tate hit 32 home runs over his high school career and was named an Aflac All-American in 2008.
Tate is the son of former University of Georgia running back Lars Tate. He is considered by some as a top ten prospect in the MLB draft and has been playing for USA.
An outstanding all around athlete, Tate has played running back, quarterback, wide receiver, safety and special teams in his career.
2008: Tate completed 41 of 64 pass attempts for 1,027 yards scoring 10 touchdowns. He recorded 42 tackles and three interceptions.
He was named Georgia Magazine, AJC, First Team All-State DB,GSWA Honorable Mention Athlete, Mobile Press Register's Super Southeast 120 (#29), Orlando Sentinel All-Southern (GA). |
