One of the top quarterback prospects in the south, Smelley threw for 3,400 yards, 38 touchdowns, 60% completion percentage as a junior, and he added five rushing touchdowns.
Scouting Report:
Chris Smelley has a quick release on the
ball and doesn't have to muscle up on a throw to get velocity on it. He has an
easy delivery that generates plenty of power, so he doesn't sacrifice accuracy
on his throws long throws. Like many of the top quarterbacks in high school
these days, Smelley does a lot of his damage from the shotgun formation, but his
footwork looks good enough that he should have no trouble getting under center.
Smelley is a smart player that makes good decisions, and throws a quick,
accurate ball.
