Former Stone Mountain Star to Transfer Premium Story

Posted May 5, 2008

Marcus Ball set to leave Florida State football program.

Former Stone Mountain High linebacker Marcus Ball has left the Florida State football program.

"Florida State announced on Monday that linebacker Marcus Ball has asked for a release from his football scholarship and that request has been granted," the school said in a statement.

Ball made an immediate impact for the Seminoles on special teams as a true freshman in 2006. Last season he became a starter and posted 24 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Ball starred at Stone Mountain and became one of the most sought-after recruits in the state of Georgia. The speedy defender was rated by Scout.com as a four-star prospect and the 10th-ranked linebacker in the country in 2005.

He posted 126 tackles as a senior in leading Stone Mountain to the state semifinals.
