Walton High QB Headed to 'Bama This Weekend

Ray Rayburn will make the trip from Marietta to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to see the Tide's scrimmage.

Walton High quarterback Ray Rayburn admits that he follows the home-state Georgia Bulldogs the most.

But that doesn't mean that the 6-foot, 178-pound signal caller isn't looking forward to traveling to Alabama's campus this weekend to attend a Crimson Tide scrimmage.

"Following UGA, I don't know that much about Alabama," Rayburn told GAVSV.com. "That's why I am excited to go to their campus. I want to see how they run their offense and how they use the quarterback. I also want to learn about their quarterbacks coach."

In addition to the Crimson Tide, Rayburn says that he has been hearing from quite a few other schools as well.

"I have been getting mail from Clemson, Alabama, Purdue, Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern," Rayburn said. "There's some more but those are probably the ones I am most serious about."

The interest in the Walton star isn't surprising.

As a junior a season ago, he led his squad to the state semi-finals by connecting on 64 of his 108 attempts for 898 yards and five scores in an offense that puts running the football as priority No. 1.

"I follow coach's directions real well," Rayburn said, when asked what he brings to the quarterback position. "I read defenses well and I follow my reads. I also have the ability to get out of the pocket when under pressure and make throws on the run."
