Chattahoochee's Matos Does Damage in the Slot

Alex Matos is a speedy tailback turned slot receiver and the Chattahoochee star talks recruiting.

Chattaoochee High star Alex Matos used to play running back, but the quick offensive player quickly realized where he can do the most damage to opposing defenses.

"My coach moved me to the slot," Matos told GAVSV.com. "I like it better than at tailback because I am not very big and I can find the soft spots in the defense."

As Matos mentioned, he doesn't boast great size (he stands 5-foot-7 1/2 and 165 pounds) but what he lacks in physical presence, he makes up for in speed.

And his work in the slot is what college coaches will likely look at when they evaluate footage of his style of play.

"I am getting ready to send my film out right now," Matos said. "I like schools that run a spread style of offense. That's the same type of offense we use now (in high school) and it's the one I am most comfortable with."

In addition to his preference towards a certain style of the playbook, Matos also feels strongly about potentially playing college football in the Sunshine State.

"I am from Florida so I would like to play down there," Matos said.

As of right now, Matos hasn't heard from many schools but said that North Carolina and Virginia have sent him questionnaires.

He plans on doing whatever he has to do to make sure more colleges come calling soon.

"I just want college coaches to know that I play strong on every play," Matos said. "I am good at finding the soft spots and reading defenses."
