The three standout schools cap off the Georgia high school playoffs with championship wins Saturday.

Lowndes captured its fifth 5A state title Saturday night in a driving rain storm against North Gwinnett.

The Vikings jumped out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back en route to grinding out the 34-6 victory.

The Lowndes rushing attack of tailbacks Darriet Perry and Greg Reid led the way with a combined 284 yards on the ground.

In the 2A final, Lovett was no match for a Buford squad that made winning a fourth championship look easy.

The Wolves easily earned a 50-0 victory thanks to 203 rushing yards by tailback Demetrius Murray and a defense that held the Lions to just nine yards of offense in the first half.

While Lowndes and Buford didn't have much of challenge, Carver-Columbus needed the entire game clock to get past Cairo.

The Tigers found themselves trailing in the final minute before quarterback DeRon Furr's 24-yard touchdown scramble put them on top for good and delivered the 3A championship.

It was third straight game of the playoffs that Carver-Columbus had to come from behind for a victory in the waning moments.
