Brunswick FB Needs More Attention

One of the Peach State's best fullbacks may be going unnoticed down in Brunswick (Ga.) Brunswick High. Richard Cash stands 6-foot, 250-pounds and likes to deliver, with or without the ball, big hits on would be tacklers.

Although some may not know about the Brunswick fullback, Richard Cash is getting some looks from several top schools around the nation. He hasn't taken any visits yet, but he plans to change that very soon.

"I'm getting interest from Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska, and Florida International," said Cash. "I was invited to Georgia's junior day, but that's about it as far as visits go. Me and my Coach are going to start going over some schools and I hope to start visiting some of these schools very soon."

As a junior, Cash carried 81 times for 642 yards and ten touchdowns. A pure blocking back, he is a bruiser in the ground game used to open up holes, but also a solid running back who can wear down defenses by running north-south.

"I break a lot of tackles and I'm a very hard runner," said Cash. "Basically, my game is to try and get everybody else intimidated, scared, and wore down, then the second half is all easy work."

Head Coach Maurice Freeman and the Pirates have decided to change things up on offense in 2007. What effect will that change have on Cash and his ability?

"We changed up the offense a little bit," he said. "We mostly run out of the I-formation, but we're going to try and pass it a little bit more this year. We've got some guys that we can do that with now. We've got a shotgun set now and we're going to work out of that."

"I don't think it changes things for me. I'll be in the backfield a lot. I can catch the ball or run the ball between the tackles. I think I'll be able to do even more damage as a blocker out of the shotgun. I like blocking just as much as running with the ball. I love doing them both."

Last year, Cash earned All-Region as a fullback. He is also a starter at middle linebacker and excels in the weight room with a 340 bench and 525 squat.

He lists Georgia, Florida State, Clemson, Kansas, and Nebraska as his early favorites.
