Talented Mark Wright Jr. is one of the top overall quarterback prospects
in Middle Georgia. He recently took a visit to Clark Atlanta University and
found a home.
"I went up to Clark Atlanta this past weekend,"
said Wright Jr. "I met the coaches and they all seemed like they were nice
guys. You could tell that they know what they're talking about. They
know a lot about football and they know about winning and things like
that."
"I met some of the players and they all seemed like
they were pretty good guys. They seemed to be committed to the team and wanted
to win. The campus was real nice. It had a nice atmosphere and I
liked it. I just decided it was the right place for me."
As a sophomore, Wright Jr. was a key member of the 2004 Class 4A state
championship team. Warner Robins finished 14-0-1 after defeating Statesboro
34-13 at Paulson Stadium.
A torn ACL during his junior season ended his
2005 campaign early and the Demons moved up to Class 5A in 2006. With Wright
Jr. returning from a knee injury, Warner Robins surprised everyone by
advancing to the Class 5A state Semi-Finals before losing 7-13
to Peachtree Ridge in the Georgia Dome.
"The 2004 season was probably my best year. It
was a lot of fun. All of the players were great guys and they wanted
to win. It was just a great year for everybody in Warner
Robins."
"And then, of course, in
the eleventh grade, I got hurt. That wasn't too fun, but I stuck with the
team and rehabbed strong. We didn't have a bad year at all in 2005.
We made it to the playoffs."
"I worked hard in the off
season, so I could come back and play the best I could. This was a very
successful season. We made it to the Dome. After moving up to Class 5A, I thought that was pretty good."
Overall, he credits Warner Robins
Head Coach Bryan Way for helping the team improve through out this trying
season.
"Coach Way is a good coach," Wright Jr.
said. "He knows a lot about football. Of course, as you can
see. He puts us in a good position to win. We knew that a lot
of people didn't think we were going to win after moving up to Class 5A.
They said our schedule was going to be too hard, so that kind of pushed
us. It only added fuel to the fire."
Mark Wright Jr., who is planning to major in Sports Medicine, also visited Valdosta State and has had
interest from several other schools including UT-Martin.
He completed 56 passes for 847 yards and four
touchdowns on the season.
