Baldwin (8-1), with their first-rate offense and North Clayton (6-3) with their well-known safety prospect Morgan Burnett, are set to face off at Braves’ Field on Friday night. Baldwin wide receiver Wayne Bonner talked to GAVSV.com about his showdown with Burnett and the North Clayton secondary.
Wayne Bonner
, who holds offers from
Florida
,
Michigan
,
Indiana
and
Western Michigan
, appeared eager when GAVSV's John Marchant asked him about this Friday night's encounter with
Morgan Burnett
and the Eagles' defense.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Bonner. "I'm ready to go. I know they have some very good players. They have the number one free safety in the state back there."
"We're going to try and run the ball and I'm going to do my best to block for our guys. If we struggle with the running game, then I'm going to do my part to make plays in the passing game."
What does Bonner think about his showdown with Morgan Burnett?
"It's going to be a good one," he said. "He's a number one prospect. With me being one of the top receivers, I'm really looking forward to facing him."
Bonner is just one of many weapons on offense for Baldwin. Fellow wide receiver
Markell Smith
and quarterback
Patrick Spears
are legitimate college prospects.
Tailback
Darius Marshall
, at 5-foot-10, 183-pounds is a 2,000 yard rusher who holds offers from Florida, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, Maryland, and Illinois.
Bonner predicts the Braves to make a strong push for a state championship.
"Everybody knows if we work real hard together at practice, it will show in the game," Bonner said. "If all of us works hard, then nobody can stop us. Whenever we need a big play, it's always a different player that steps up."
"We want to go back to the Dome," Bonner said. "We're not just a Dome team. We're a championship team. It was a shock to everybody when we went last year. Now, everybody kinda expects us to go back."
As for the recruiting process, Bonner will wait till after the season to take any official visits. He said Florida State, Miami, LSU, Louisville and Middle Tennessee are giving him the most interest.
