Class AAAAA - Region 6
2004 Football Preview Class AAAAA - Region 6 Although perennial region powers Chattahoochee and Centennial are gone, the addition of Walton will help up make for much of the loss in strength. Walton is coming off an 11-1 season, and a 10-0 mark in tough Region 5. Still, Cherokee, who is coming off a run to the state quarterfinals, remains the envy of the league. Star running back Astin Foster (1,851 yards) graduated, but the Warriors return 14 starters, including Cherokee County Defensive Player of the Year defensive lineman Brenan Goldi as well as safety Braxton Foster, a three-year starter. Walton will be replacing much more, including star wide receiver and Clemson signee Aaron Kelly. The Raiders will count heavily on their defense and linebacker Tyler Perry. Wheeler will feature one of the state's top running backs in Richie Rich, who picked up 1,454 yards in 2003 and will team with speedy quarterback Tay Robinson again. Sequoyah's Tony Pastore ranks among the state's top quarterbacks. Milton, Lassiter, Roswell and Woodstock will also be in the postseason hunt. Milton's Nick Barwig is one of the region's top quarterbacks and punter Brandon Henderson is one of the best in the state. Mike O'Brien took over a Woodstock program coming off back-to-back winless seasons and led them to a 5-5 mark in 2003. Look for more improvement out of the confident Wolverines. Kell may be a big surprise. Coming off an 8-2 season with a non-region schedule, the Longhorns bring back nine starters on each side of the ball. Pope will have to make up for an inexperienced defense to rank among the contenders again. provided by GaSports.com
