2004 Football Preview
Class A - Region 7

In Region 7-A defending Region champ Lincoln County and arch-rival Washington-Wilkes, returning to Class A after two years in AA, are expected to battle for the region title with the big showdown planned for October 15th in Lincolnton.  Lincoln graduated Division I QB Travis Clark, who signed with the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, linebacker Octavious Andrews, kicker/linebacker Josh Beard, and TE/DE Drum Long, but they return outstanding running backs Gavin Williams, Shawntavious Jennings, C. J. Norman, and Darrell Norman. A corps of good receivers, including Taveras Stokes and Steven Brown, return for QB Cordarryl Coppin, who has seen a lot of playing time the previous two seasons. The Devils will have size on the line and on defense with Alex Wideman and Jarius Wynn back for another season. Larry Campbell will definitely be making another run for the state title. Russell Morgan is back for his second year as the head Tiger at Washington-Wilkes and expects to build off of last year's 6-5 playoff team. The Tigers were young in 2003 with only 8 seniors and 15 freshmen on their roster. Senior running back Jake Dyson will lead the Tigers offensively as they try to replace their outstanding QB Jamaal Binns whom they lost to graduation.

Warren County, Georgia Military College, and Aquinas will compete for the third and fourth spots, with Warren a slight favorite. Newcomer Hancock Central could surprise a couple of teams and grab the fourth seed.
