McEachern got off to
a slow start this year, but with Herculean efforts from running back C.J. Barrows the past two weeks, the Indians have reeled off two straight. Should
Barrows continue to run wild, McEachern won't lose many more.
Last week vs. South Cobb, Barrows had 272 yards and two touchdowns rushing on
only 14 carries.
For his efforts he has been names this week's Competitive
Edge Sports/GAVSV Offensive Player of the Week.
"Two weeks ago against Campbell I got a career high in carries with
20," said Barrows. "I had over 200 yards in that game too. I think
that was a school record having back to back 200 yard games. Against South Cobb
it was just a matter of finding the cutback lanes. The offensive line did a good
job, and I could cut it back. My speed has gotten better, and I was able to have
a 67 yard run right before halftime. Then I had a 64 yard run in the third
quarter too."
Barrows is being recruited by schools from across the region, and there is still
some question on which position he will play on the next level.
"I've got an official visit set up to Illinois (12-5). North Carolina is a
team that is recruiting me at safety. Well, they were. I sent them a tape, and
Coach Bunting called me back and said that I could come in and have a shot at
running back too. I have offers from Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina,
Virginia, Ohio, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss. Everyone else is recruiting me to
play running back."
"I don't really have any favorites right now. If I had to name my five
visits, they would probably be Illinois, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ole
Miss, or maybe Arkansas. Arkansas has been sending me a lot of letters. What's
surprising is that I haven't heard from Florida or Alabama in a long time, but
that's OK, I'll just have to look in another direction."
Despite the slow start, McEachern still has an outside chance at making the
playoffs this year, and with Barrows leading the way, I wouldn't count them out.
