Official Visit Confirms Bart's Decision

Mikey Bart's official visit to North Carolina over the weekend confirmed to him that he made the right decision when he switched his verbal commitment to UNC from South Florida earlier in the month.

"That was definitely the best decision for me," Bart said. "Looking back on it, I should have committed this summer, honestly.

"Everything went well. I really like the coaches [and] I really like the campus. I really like all the players. It's just really a nice place to be."

Bart, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end from Buford (Ga.), originally verbally committed to South Florida in early November. When USF fired head coach Skip Holtz, Bart began to look around. At about the same time, UNC was looking to add a defensive end to its class and eventually reoffered Bart. Once the offer was officially back on the table, Bart immediately accepted.

The commitment flip meant a change to Bart's official visit schedule. Thus, he along with his mother, traveled to Chapel Hill on Friday.

"We did a lot of touring, ate a lot with the players, and I hung out with my buddy that went to Buford last year [Nathan Staub] and three of his roommates," Bart said.

Tim Jackson, a fellow defensive end, was Bart's host for the weekend, but he spent the most time with Staub.

"I liked Tim a lot too, but Nathan was begging for me to hang out with him," Bart said. "I was happy with whoever I was with.

"Nathan mainly talked to me about how to prepare myself to get used to it up here, how the practices are, how all the coaches are, and he showed me around like the places to eat."

When Bart wasn't with the players, he was usually with Deke Adams, UNC's defensive line coach and Bart's primary recruiter.

"He didn't talk football that much," Bart said. "It was a lot of socializing and meeting his family. Football-wise, we had a meeting – me and the other defensive line recruits – and we just talked about the defenses."

Before heading home on Sunday afternoon, Bart met with Larry Fedora.

"He asked us if we had any questions," Bart said. "But all of our questions were answered throughout the two visits I went up there. We talked about outdoors, honestly – stuff like that."
