JUCO defensive tackle prospect Ben Bradley

NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooners undoubtedly took a huge hit when legacy defensive tackle prospect Justin Manning selected Texas A&M over OU Thursday afternoon, but now they must move on and get back on the trails with many other good targets still available.

Where do they go to first, though?

Let's start with their high school 2013 class options.

The highest available player OU has a realistic chance of getting is four-star Maquedius Bain from University School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder recently took an OU visit for the Bedlam game and quickly after it listed the Sooners, plus LSU and Marshall as his top three, with Miami and USC also in the mix.

He'll be a tough get, but the fact that the Sooners are still on the list for him speaks volumes.

Perhaps much more of a stretch but a higher ranked player on the board OU will take a crack at is fellow South Florida four-star prospect Keith Bryant.

Bryant recently de-committed from Miami, and OU will take their shot at landing him.

Also amongst OU high school offered targets still up for grabs are recent Sooner offeree Donovan Monger and three-star prospect Deadrin Senat.

However, if looking for more immediate playing time options, the best chance is to secure a signature from four-star Hutchinson Community College defensive tackle Ben Bradley, teammate of another four-star Sooner target, Toby Johnson.

The issue with Johnson is he likely won't be able to supply an immediate need due to a torn ACL that could set him out for a season and force him to redshirt.

Still, he would be a solid addition to the class, nonetheless.

OU's final JUCO offer is out to a three-star interior defensive lineman Quincy Russell out of Trinity Valley.

With OU graduating three defensive tackles in Jamarkus McFarland, Stacy McGee and Casey Walker, it makes it all the more imperative that OU lock up at least a couple of these guys.

And that's where the concern comes in and is warranted in not getting what seemed like a virtual lock in Manning.

All this said, we'll see where defensive tackles coach Jackie Shipp and the Sooners go from here.
